The Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show was held at the AsiaWorld Expo, at the Hong Kong International Airport, February 27th - March 3rd. The show was a massive success, and was organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. The show featured over 4,500 exhibitors, and over 87,000 buyers. The show consisted of primarily diamonds, pearls, precious stones, and semi-precious stones, and was sponsored by The Hong Kong Watch Manufacturers Association Ltd. and The Federation of Hong Kong Watch Trades & Industries Ltd.
The Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show also known as the HKTDC is the largest trade event for jewelry industries worldwide. Aside from diamonds, pearls, precious stones, and semi-precious stones, loose diamonds and gemstones were also featured at the show. This
massive jewelry show is a great opportunity for buyers, sellers, and the like to get together and discuss, network, trade, sell, and buy gemstones, diamonds, and pearls.
Being the largest of its kind, buyers and exhibitors waited all year for this show, primarily because this is where most of their gems are bought and sold. This show was also the chance for buyers to check out all the new designs and jewelry trends for the upcoming year ahead. The buyers and exhibitors who attended the show came from all over the world, with exhibitors coming from over 52 different countries, and buyers coming from over 145. This year showed a 3.6% increase in attendance from last year’s show, and many people attribute this increase to overall improved global economic conditions.
The results from this year’s HKTDC show concluded that karat rose gold jewelry was the most popular, with 45% of attendees preferring karat rose gold to any other type of jewelry. Next most popular was karat white gold, followed by platinum. The most popular gemstones at the show were diamonds, which were preferred by 61% of attendees, followed by jade, aquamarine, and finally, pearls.
